Travel Grant Past Recipients
Alastair Khodabukus, PhD
Duke University
Ali received a travel grant from the Jain Foundation to present a poster on his dysferlin research at the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) 2025 Conference, held in Dallas, Texas from March 16–19. His poster was titled “Loss of Dysferlin Disrupts Cholesterol Homeostasis Impairing Membrane Repair and Metabolism in LGMD2B: Insights from a hiPSC-derived 3D Muscle Model.”
“My participation at MDA 2025 allowed me to showcase my own research, significantly increasing the visibility, and provided critical feedback on the translational relevance of my model – particularly the importance of validating findings in vivo using the BLAJ mouse model,” said Ali.
Conference attendees included researchers, clinicians, industry representatives, and patient advocacy groups focused on neuromuscular disorders.
Ali also participated in the oral presentations and had the chance to engage with colleagues and other researchers who attended.
“These interactions helped bridge basic and clinical perspectives and underscored the importance of translational efforts in muscular dystrophy research,” Ali said. “And it was a great opportunity to make new connections and build on professional relationships.”
